Problem Statement and Solution
Problem Statement
When KhetiBuddy approached us, their existing website was falling short in showcasing their powerful platform and capabilities. They were growing rapidly in the AgriTech space but faced several challenges:
- The website was developed in 2021, and over the years, it became cluttered with mixed and inconsistent content. It lacked a clear structure, making it difficult for users to navigate and for the internal team to manage effectively.
- Over time, too many plugins had been installed, creating a fragile system. The client’s team was unsure of the impact of removing any plugin, which made maintenance risky and slowed down development and updates.
- The website had been managed in a fragmented way since its inception, resulting in a lack of accountability and technical consistency.
- The site started with a readymade WordPress theme, but after years of customization, it became unmanageable and unstable. Each small change, such as adding a dropdown, required heavy CSS edits and risked breaking other components. Layout issues would frequently occur and were hard to trace for the client’s team.
- The design was never cohesive and felt like pieces stitched together rather than a complete experience.
- The site was not feature-rich despite significant investment in development costs. Functionality remained limited, and it failed to provide the kind of robust platform needed to scale.
- Crashes were frequent, and often, the only solution was to restore a previous version. This created a lack of confidence in the site’s reliability for both internal teams and external audiences.
- SEO issues became a major concern as search results in India and Canada got mixed up. This led to credibility challenges, with Indian audiences in particular losing trust when they landed on the Canada site version.
- Collaboration with website vendors was difficult because the marketing and sales teams spoke a different language than their developers. Vendors often just executed instructions without offering strategic input, resulting in a site that lacked business alignment.
- The overall website did not support the long-term objectives of building trust, driving lead generation, and projecting an export-ready image. Instead of being an enabler, it became a bottleneck for growth.
Solution
We approached the challenge with a goal to elevate their website into a scalable, quick, and intuitive experience.
The project involved redeveloping and optimizing two country-specific sites: the global (.com) and Canadian (/ca) versions.
Our solution included:
- We started with a fresh design approach so the website truly represents Khetibuddy as a modern agritech company. The new UI is reader-friendly, visually consistent, and communicates trust immediately to visitors.
- Clear navigation and user journeys have been created for different audiences, including farmers, enterprises, and government partners. Each group can now easily find relevant information without confusion.
- Internal teams now feel confident working with the CMS and managing updates independently. This has reduced turnaround times for campaigns, product launches, and content publishing.
- Designed the site with a marketing-first perspective so that lead generation objectives are met alongside technical execution. The new website now serves as both a trust-builder and a growth enabler.
- Maintained continuity during migration by ensuring essential pages were preserved, irrelevant ones removed carefully, and overall traffic quality improved by focusing on relevant lead-driving pages.
- Conducted training sessions for the in-house team to manage the website independently.
The approach we took
Mission, Vision, Design, and Development
We began by immersing ourselves in KhetiBuddy’s mission and target Ideal Customer Profile. Our design team crafted a clean, responsive UI that reflected their AgriTech innovation while maintaining an earthy, trustworthy tone.
On the development side, we built custom WordPress Gutenberg-based blocks from scratch, focusing on speed, scalability, and modular flexibility.
Mobile-first design, optimized performance, and a strong SEO foundation, including hreflang support and URL mapping, ensured the site was ready for growth.
The result is a modern, intuitive website that strengthens brand trust, improves content clarity, and empowers the marketing team to manage the website independently.
The Approach
Discovery & Research
- Worked closely with the KhetiBuddy marketing team to understand their user personas.
- Conducted competitor analysis to identify design gaps and performance benchmarks.
- Introduced a collaborative process where Khetibuddy’s marketing inputs were aligned with our WordPress expertise, resulting in a balanced approach between business goals and technical execution.
Design Refresh
- We conducted stakeholder interviews with the leadership team of KhetiBuddy to understand their vision, brand values, and design expectations.
- Developed a design system with consistent typography, colors, and components to ensure scalability and brand alignment.
- We created wireframes and high-fidelity mockups that reflected the company’s dual identity, deep-tech expertise, and strong agricultural roots.
- Created mobile-first wireframes for every unique design to ensure usability on smaller screens.
- Before moving into development, we presented mockups in Adobe XD so stakeholders could visualize user journeys upfront, reducing back-and-forth and ensuring confidence in the final design.
- Designed custom icons and visuals to highlight agritech features, using earthy tones and modern, tech-savvy aesthetics.
- Established a scalable design system with typography, color palettes, buttons, forms, icons, and reusable components.
- Provided visual assets and images tailored to KhetiBuddy’s content needs, ensuring design and storytelling stayed cohesive.
Development
- Instead of patching the old theme and plugin-heavy site, we started with a starter theme and built custom WordPress Gutenberg blocks.
- This eliminated legacy issues caused by multiple vendors, reduced reliance on third-party plugins, and delivered a clean, stable, and high-performance foundation for the website.
- We created reusable, custom Gutenberg blocks for various sections within pages, including the Homepage, Product Pages, About Us, Contact, Careers, Industry, and many more.
- This empowered KhetiBuddy’s marketing team to build new pages in-house without relying on developers, drastically reducing turnaround times.
SEO Preservation During Migration
- Mapping of URLs and 301 Redirection ensured that all old URLs pointed to their updated counterparts, preventing traffic loss and broken journeys.
- Noindex & Nofollow was applied on irrelevant or duplicate pages, keeping search visibility focused only on high-value content.
- Hreflang implementation for global (.com) and Canada (/ca) versions prevented duplicate content issues and helped show the correct site to the correct audience.
- Indian Content–Canada Links Cleanup removed unwanted cross-country indexing issues that previously caused trust gaps for users.
Ongoing SEO Activities (shared by a third-party SEO agency)
- The client’s third-party SEO team continuously shared optimization tasks, which we implemented in a structured way.
- Internal linking updates were made by revising anchor texts and linking them to the most relevant internal pages.
- Meta descriptions and titles were updated to refine page-level metadata for better click-through rates and keyword targeting.
- GSC error fixes were carried out by identifying and resolving 404 errors flagged in Google Search Console.
- Batch content updates were applied from structured SEO sheets, where existing text was replaced with optimized text or internal link adjustments.
Hreflang implementation
- At the time of development, KhetiBuddy had both a global (.com) and a Canadian (/ca) site. To manage this effectively, we implemented hreflang tags so search engines could correctly differentiate between the two versions and serve the right one to users in their respective regions. This ensured proper search visibility, avoided duplicate content conflicts, and improved SEO performance in both markets.
- Later, as per the client’s marketing team’s decision, the Canadian site was consolidated into the global site. This made the hreflang setup redundant, but the structured approach we had taken ensured that all SEO signals, redirects, and content mappings remained intact, minimizing ranking losses during the transition.
- Our approach included:
- Conducting a full audit of both sites to identify overlapping and unique content.
- Setting up hreflang tags and testing them thoroughly for both versions.
- Coordinating with the client’s SEO team to align on URL structures, internal links, and redirections.
- Maintaining detailed mapping sheets so that when the .ca site was sunset, all references and SEO equity seamlessly passed to the global site.
